A Life Well-Lived
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Pacieznik, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of the community. Born 83 years ago, George embarked on a courageous journey that would shape the course of his life and leave an enduring legacy.
Tailoring, Soccer and Family
Born in Paraguay, George was the second of eight children in a family of Ukrainian immigrants. Growing up on a farm, he had some schooling and played a lot of soccer. In his teens, he moved to Buenos Aires to work and play more soccer. When he didn't make the cut for a professional soccer club in Argentina, his father advised him to try his luck in the United States. So, he made the courageous decision to leave his homeland and sought to build a new life in the land of opportunity.
In 1963, George immigrated to Minnesota, securing a job as a tailor while continuing to play soccer. Life took a turn for the better when he attended a Ukrainian Baptist church picnic at Minnehaha Falls, where he met Lucy, the love of his life. A little red corvette, a breakfast date at Woolworths, and subsequent courtship marked the beginning of a 59-year marriage
A skilled tailor by trade, George dedicated himself to his craft, working in several clothing stores before taking the bold step of opening his own shops. He opened George's Fashion for Men during the bell bottoms, wide lapels, and polyester suits era. That transitioned into Three Tailors, his alterations shop that many in the community may still remember.
Beyond the sewing machine and clothing racks, George's true passion lay in soccer. From the campos de fútbol in South America to the fields of Minnesota, he lived and breathed the sport. George played at a high level for years, and his beloved Ukrainian Soccer Club was the toast of the league, with George scoring many of the goals. His passion for soccer extended to coaching his two boys, and he soon found himself immersed in refereeing. As a referee and board member of the Minnesota Amateur Soccer League (MASL), George left an indelible mark on the Minnesota soccer scene. He loved the 'beautiful game' and all his friends in his soccer world.
While tailoring and soccer played significant roles in his life, it was family that meant the world to him.
He is survived by his loving wife Lucy and their three children, Bob (Annie), Kristin Kiratli, and Bill (Carmen). His grandsons, Max, Kenny Kiratli, Dylan Kiratli, Eddy, and Erik, were truly the apples of his eye, cherishing their "Dido" and holding fond memories of him. He is preceded in death by his parents Miguel and Anastasia, and brother David. He is survived by brother Paul, sisters Rosa, Sofia, Paula, Ana, Marta and numerous nieces and nephews.
George Pacieznik's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. May he rest in eternal peace.
