About George

George Lopuch, a warm and gregarious man whose intelligence and humor drew people to him naturally, died June 8 in Minneapolis. He was 76.

Born in London on April 23, 1950, and raised in Astoria, New York, George earned his MBA from the University of Notre Dame and built a distinguished career leading Strategic Planning divisions at two American retail giants of their time: SuperValu and Best Buy.

In retirement, he and his wife Paula wintered in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, a place whose warmth and culture suited him. George played tennis with devotion, matched wits across a chessboard, traveled the world, studied the collapse of complex societies and never lost his passion for The Beatles.

George was preceded in death by his father, James.

He is survived by his wife, Paula; son, Jonathan (Jayme); stepdaughter Lija Greenseid (Andrew); grandchildren, Hunter, Quinn, Arija, and Adam; mother, Judy; and sister, Christina Groark (Brian).
