George's Story
George Dutra passed away peacefully in his home on May 22, 2026. George was born on April 24, 1944 in Chicago Illinois to George and Lucy (nee O’Malley). He received a scholarship to the Illinois Institute of Technology but found his permanent career when he took a summer job at the Burlington Northern Railroad following his high school graduation. He received technology training through the railroad, and worked his way up to become; Vice President of Data Processing for Burlington Northern Santa Fe. He also acted as a consultant for the World Bank; finally retiring in 2004.
George enjoyed travel, classical music, art, history, model trains, and reading science fiction. It wasn’t until later in life that he found his true love when he met and married Patricia. When George married Patricia, his love and family grew as he became a stepfather to seven children and a grandfather to eleven. George was a great story teller on many subjects and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his family.
During his final days, he was visited by family from Illinois,New Hampshire, and New Jersey. He was able to eat the famous deep dish pizza from Chicago, compliments of his nieces. He certainly felt the love that everyone gave to him.
George is survived by wife Patricia, sister Mary, step children: Brenda(Kirby), Jamey(Candice), Paul(Michelle), Mark(Stacy), Alejandro(Helena),Kim(Shane), Nicole, eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by father George, mother Lucy, and brothers Charles and James.
