life story
A wonderful friend with a sense of adventure
George Albert Manzur was born in Merida, Mexico, the son of Jose and Elena (Mendez) Manzur. He immmigrated to the United States in the 1950s and later became a proud United States citizen.
George worked for the Minneapolis Public Schools for many years. He was a talented woodworker and created many beautiful pieces of furniture. He decorated them in a style that he termed "Georgemaling", as opposed to rosemaling.
He loved antiquing and travel. He traveled on various tours, including to Spain, Italy and China. George had a second home in Chetumal, Mexico close to the Riviera Maya and would escape the cold Minnesota winters there. He became suddenly ill while in Chetumal.
Thanks to the efforts of Sun Country Airlines who enlisted the aid of two fellow passengers to watch him during the flight, he returned to Minnesota. George passed away a week later at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He is remembered with affection by his friends both in the United States and Mexico.
