Frederick Bowden Joy

June 11, 1948 – June 16, 2022

Manchester, CT, USA

Frederick Bowden Joy of Manchester, Connecticut left this dimension on Thursday night, June 16th, 5 days after his 74th birthday.

He was born in Bangor Maine, June 11, 1948 to Nathan of Winter Harbor, Maine and Jessie (Bowden) Joy of Sullivan, Maine. He grew up in Manchester, where he met and married Carol Andrews.

He went on to the University of Hartford, where he became the editor of the school newspaper during the tumult of the late 1960’s. He found his place in the early days of the computer tech world, being hired to work for EDS (for Ross Perot) in Dallas, TX.

He settled in Harrisburg, PA for a time, continuing with EDS and raising a family. Returning to Manchester, he worked as a Project Manager at Travelers in Hartford and finally as an analyst for META GROUP of Stamford.

Fred was a voracious reader, gifted writer and speaker. As a true intellectual and warm-hearted man, he was a great conversationalist.

He was a disciplined boy scout, where he achieved the highest honor of Eagle Scout. This experience was critical to the development of his love of outdoor adventure as well as his deep sense of responsibility. If you knew him in his prime,  you will remember the picture of health, an avid runner, outdoorsman, hunter, diver and again, deep thinker.

Fred is survived by his three children (listed in birth order): Holly Connor of West Hartford, CT, Shelby Joy and daughter-in-law Dariela Joy of Windsor CT and Jordan Joy of Manchester, CT. Also 5 grandchildren: Josiah Joy and Jonah Joy of Manchester, CT, Aiden and Ethan Connor of West Hartford, CT and Elijah Joy of Windsor, CT, and his brother Rev. Charles Joy and sister-in-law Faye Joy of Richmond, VA and countless other loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by his grandson Justus Joy, son-in-law Richard Connor and nephew Austin Joy.

Fred would want to be remembered as a follower and friend of Jesus Christ. As his email address, 'omegaseek' implies, he longed to meet Him face to face. His wish has now been granted.
