Frank Zimpfer

June 25, 1955 – August 20, 2025

Princeton, MN 55371, USA

With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to a man whose quiet strength, steady presence, and deep love shaped the lives of those around him: Frank Zimpfer — a husband, a father, grandfather, brother, friend, lost his battle with cancer at home with family surrounding him.

Born on June 25, 1955, Frank lived a life rooted in integrity, resilience, and devotion to those he loved. Known for his hardworking nature and being a true jack of all trades, Frank could fix nearly anything and tackle any challenge with determination. His stubborn streak meant he stood firm in his beliefs, always doing things his way—with care, precision, and quiet confidence.

Frank dedicated 33 years of his life to Robbinsdale Schools, where he served as the lead night custodian for many years. He was a familiar and dependable presence in the hall respected for his tireless work ethic, humility, and quiet leadership. Frank took pride not only in keeping things running smoothly but also in the relationships he built along the way.

Outside of work Frank found joy and peace outdoors. He loved camping, boating, and kayaking. A familiar sight on family trips to Kabetogama was Frank carrying his tackle box—always prepared, though he never quite got around to fishing. Some of his fondest memories were made camping with his sons—Jeremy, Peter, Matt, and Zach—and his grandchildren Jes and Alex, who joined him on many trips to Kabetogama, continuing family traditions and creating new ones. The family also cherished their reunion trips to the group campsite in Ely, where laughter and stories were shared around the campfire, strengthening bonds across generations.

He enjoyed playing video games with his grandsons Aiden and Tristan and took many walks around the yard with his granddaughter Melody, passing on his love and knowledge of nature. He was especially looking forward to getting to know his newest grandson, Benji, and seeing what adventures he would get into. Frank took great pride in all his children and grandchildren, cherishing the time he spent with each of them. He shared a birthday with Aiden which gave them an even more special bond.

The greatest love of Frank’s life was his wife, Renee. Married for 42 years, their partnership was built on deep devotion, respect, and unwavering support for one another. Together they weathered life’s challenges and celebrated countless joys, building a family and a home filled with love. Renee stood by Frank’s side through his long battle with cancer, just as she had through every step of his journey. Frank often said he couldn’t have asked for a more loyal, loving, and steadfast partner, and he was endlessly proud of the life they built together.

One of his happiest moments was meeting his birth mother and sisters in 2017. Only in his wildest dreams would he find and get to meet his birth mother and build a relationship with her and his sisters.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Marjorie Zimpfer, Golden Valley, MN, and his birth mother, Luella Solberg, Roseau, MN. Brother Michael Solberg.

Frank is survived by his loving wife Renee; his four sons—Jeremy (Shari) Rychly, Peter (Amanda) Zimpfer, Matthew (Amber) Zimpfer, Zachary (Hayden) Zimpfer; his beloved grandchildren Jes, Alex, Tristan, Aiden, Melody, and baby Benji. Sisters, Denise Jenson, Lyn Trangsrud, Coco (Gene) Tremaine, Robert Ellingson, whom he loved as a son.

His family will carry forward his values, stories, and love with pride and gratitude.

A gathering to honor Frank’s life will take place on October 4, 2025, at 2pm at his home in Princeton MN. All who knew him are welcome to attend and share memories.

Though he is no longer with us in body, Frank’s spirit remains—in the stillness of the woods, the open waters of the lake, the halls of the school he cared for, and the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
