life story

Born a farmer, became a father: sharing the farm life and faith.

Eugene enjoyed the farm life in Iowa and later in Wisconsin. After graduating high school, he spent some time traveling the USA with an evangelical group. He worked as a machinist and maintenance/handyman. He was an avid recycler and enjoyed repurposing projects. Eugene's daughter Emily had special needs and he was dedicated to giving her a meaningful childhood/life. Eugene really enjoyed our whole family gatherings, whether it was at Como Park, all-you-can-eat buffets, or his son's hobby farm.

As Eugene's body weakened, his playfulness, spirit and faith stayed strong as he passed on in peace with his Lord.

Family reflections

As a child, working on my grandmother's farm in Dunkerton, Iowa, hauling rock, cleaning out the barn or walking the beans pulling out weeds, when us kids would get too rambunctious, my dad would say, "you don't spell work, P-L-A-Y"! BUT, over the years, I spent a lot of time "working" with my dad, and it was difficult, truly laborious work. I learned a lot working with him: developing my tradesman skills, brought back to life an abandon farmstead, develop a great work ethic, playfulness at work and learned to enjoy my work! I will really miss my time "working" with my dad, which was so much more than work❣ son: Mark.

>It was great seeing Dad care for Emily as an adult. He always knew just the right phrase to make her laugh and he delighted in seeing her happy. His faith always hoped that she would be healed and start talking and walking but he never got to see that on this side of heaven. Now they are enjoying each other in a way that thrills my heart.

>Dad was a very interesting character and so kind. He loved to turn trash into treasures buy finding a home for things he'd find in the alleys near his home in Mpls. Any time we'd visit he would go through all the "treasures" he'd find, hoping that we'd take several home. Many times, we did. One time I even put in a request for a dog kennel and got one FREE several months later.

>Over the years he has said things that I cherish now that he is gone. One of my favorite things he said to me was "Oh....Me and Jesus, we have so much fun! I lose things and he finds them!" So grateful that he trusted Jesus as his savoir and had fun with Jesus!

>I cherish my childhood memories of spending time with dad at my grandma's farm in Iowa. He was a good son and was dedicated to checking in on his mom and sister while taking us kids along for fun and work.

>As Dad's body weakened and his mind became foggy his fun attitude shined through. He loved to make others laugh, and the folks at his assisted living spoke of what a sweet man he was. I am going to miss him until I see him again!
