life story

Devoted Wife, loving Mother, Grandma & GG

Elsie Campbell passed away peacefully in her home on the Lords day, January 23, 2022.

Elsie was born October 4, 1935 in Boscawen, New Hampshire, to Harrison and Mona Sargent. She attended a one room school house through the 8th grade. She graduated high school from Penacook High.

After graduation, she joined the United States military.

While stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany in the US Army, her specialty title was ‘Stenographer’.

There she met the love of her life, Steve Campbell. The story goes they “met in a foxhole” but in actuality, it was in the chow line. After a whirl wind romance in picturesque Germany, they married in the United States on January 8, 1955.

Together they moved from the East Coast, to Arizona and then to where they settled in Southern California, and raised four children. In 1974 they moved to the mountains of San Diego to start Echo Mountain Bible Camp. For the next 35 years she served thousands of meals to Military men & women, church groups, family & friends, by cooking homemade meals served with a smile and her kind words.

Elsie was a hard worker; never one to sit still for long. She had many jobs throughout her life which included Apple Picker, Nanny, Store Clerk, and Receptionist in a Doctor’s office.

Elsie loved to garden, watch birds, read and cook. Many memories have been made around their family table with fellowship, laughter, tears, and many many Scrabble games.

Elsie is survived by Steve, her husband of 65 years. Four children, Steve, Tammy, David and Sylvia, 14 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. All of whom she loved dearly.

We will never forget her kindness, and sincere love for the Lord. She will be deeply missed.
