life story

Elizabeth Ann (McDonnell) Stebbing, known to friends as “Bette,” passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, at the age 94. Elizabeth was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend that will be missed by many.

Elizabeth’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her loving children: Mark (Dawn) Stebbing, Lynn (Bob) Wandmacher, Tom (Sandy) Stebbing, and Jim (Gina) Stebbing and many other dear relatives and friends. Elizabeth had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and happiness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell “Jim” Stebbing, her parents, Earl & Helen “Ella” McDonnell, her brothers Eugene McDonnell and Leon McDonnell, and her sister Mary Nortsten.

Elizabeth’s greatest attribute and passion was both serving and caring for her family and others in need. She was a devout Catholic who brought Communion to the sick and homebound, as member of Ste. Anne’s Council of Catholic Women. Elizabeth had to transition from housewife to a customer service representative at Northern States Power, after her husband prematurely passed away. She exhibited admirable resilience and strength as a single parent with three children still at home. Elizabeth enjoyed baking, knitting, playing bocce ball, reading books, socializing, traveling, and loved winning at bingo, slots & cards. Lucky Bette would often graciously give away her winnings to family members. She enjoyed baking delicious goodies for family, friends and church. She was a strong supporter and encouraged her children and grandchildren in various sporting activities where she would ring her cow bells and loudly cheer on her kids’ teams.
