About Elfriede
Elfriede Erna Roeder, 88, formerly of Parker, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Littlefork Care Center in Littlefork, MN.
Elfriede (Rodenberg) Roeder was born December 1, 1935 in Minden, Germany. She immigrated to Canada at age 18, traveling with 2 young children she was charged with delivering to their father in Toronto.
Elfriede moved to New York City where she was a key hole puncher operator for Texaco. She met her lifetime partner Heinrich Roeder, who had also immigrated from Germany, at the Easter Parade on Fifth Avenue in NYC in 1962. In 1964, they bought a small town bakery called the Tarrytown Pastry Chef, which they operated for 22 years. They worked side by side, 6 days a week and created many wonderful pastries. Besides running a business she made many beautiful handcrafted items, including knitting sweaters, sewing clothes and Halloween costumes for her children and grandson, needle point pictures, and embroidering tablecloths.
Elfriede and Henry retired to the mountains in southern Colorado in 1986. They loved living in the mountains, enjoying time with friends, hiking, skiing, creating perennial gardens, and gathering wood to heat their home.
Elfriede’s husband passed away in Germany in 2004 and she continued to live in the mountains for 10 years on her own.
Elfriede is survived by her daughters Monica Roeder of Blackduck, MN, Sonja Roeder of Parker, CO, and grandson Shawn O’Brien of Blackduck, MN.
