life story

A Papa to All

Edwin (Ed) Michael Winkelman, originally from Osseo, MN and then Baxter, MN, passed away on February 19th after a yearlong battle with liver cancer. He was at home surrounded by his children and his dogs. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Edwin and Rosemary Winkelman, his daughter, Stella Winkelman, and his sister Renee. He is survived by his children Lauri McCloud, Edwin Winkelman Jr., Jessica (Harley) Sellick, Michael (Katie) Winkelman, Samantha (Scott) Farrell, Elizabeth Winkelman, his 6 grandchildren, 6 siblings, and many other loving family and friends.

Ed spent the majority of his life as a skilled mechanic and found joy in restoring classic cars. After retirement, Ed relished spending time with his friends and family by the lake and taking off for an adventure on his motorcycle.

He was also an avid music lover and spent many years running Karaoke at various locations in the Brainerd Lakes area. He attended the Moondance Jam music festival every year where he enjoyed listening to some of his favorite bands.

He had a big heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. His grandchildren were the lights of his life and he took great pride in being a Papa.

His death is a reminder that we should cherish the time we have with each other in the here and now and not delay in pursuing life’s pleasures.

Per Ed’s request, there will not be a formal funeral. There will be a celebration of life at a later date to ensure every one’s safety due to COVID. We will utilize Facebook to announce his celebration of life.

Memorial contributions can be sent to 3233 89th Ave NE, Blaine, MN 55449.
