Best Papa Ever !

The love he had for this guy and his son's was beyond words

Mike lost his battle with cancer on Oct 22nd 2022. Mike was born on September 2nd 1955 in Minneapolis MN to Shirley and Edward Erickson. Mike is survived by his wife, Kristen, sons Ian and Kieran, grandson Elliot, mother Shirley, sisters Darcy Rasmusson, Debbie Kahmann, Dawn Erickson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Edward Erickson and nephew, Adam Erickson.

Mike was an army veteran, serving in the 101st Airborne in the 70's. During his time in the service Mike spent a summer teaching artillery mathematics to cadets at West Point. After leaving the army he became a mechanical designer and was awarded five patents during his career. He retired in 2021.

He spent many years as a Boy/Cub Scout leader when his sons were in scouting. Mike took the scouts to Ely to go dog sledding. He went to scout camp every summer and helped with many of the projects there. He helped design and erect a large sign that represented Troop 290 using a rope and pulley system. He taught skills such as knots, carving, shooting and wilderness survival and navigation. He was a leader that his troop could look up to and respect.

Mike loved his trips to England with Kristen and his sons. He enjoyed getting to know Kristen's family over there. He needed to have someone interpret for him at first but soon understood th dialect! He enjoyed staying on a sheep farm and made friends with many locals in the pubs. He loved the history of England and Scotland. He loved the food abroad.

Mike's mother Shirley encouraged his love of cooking and reading. She will miss his weekly phone calls, visits with her great grandson and him bringing her Ingebretsons Swedish sausage and other Scandinavian treats each year for the holidays.

Additionally, Mike loved to hunt, fish and cook.
