Edward “Ed” John Nelson, 76, of Bemidji, MN died on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from COPD at the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Ed was born on March 1, 1948, at Bagley, the son of Floyd and Alice (Owens) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Bagley and attended Bagley Schools.

Ed entered the United States Army at Fort Hood in Texas and served our country for 2 years before being honorable discharged. He was a semi-truck driver for many years, traveling all over the United States. Ed also worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the 49’ers Union.

Ed married Mary Hanson on January 1, 1980, at Ebro Corner in Bagley and they were blessed with a son, Chad. Ed enjoyed the game of cribbage and cards which he played everyday with his friend. Another passion of Ed’s was taking the boat out with his son, Chad, and fishing. He also enjoyed four-wheeling and driving his golf cart around.

Ed is survived by his wife – Mary Nelson of Bemidji, Minnesota

Son – Chad Nelson of Solway, Minnesota

Sister – Ruth Halvorson of Bagley, Minnesota

Sister – Chris (Rick) Ames of Bagley, Minnesota

Several nieces and nephews

He is preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, and also his brother-in-law-James Halvorson.

Pastor Terry Bernstrom will be officiating. A gathering will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will be held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Bagley, Minnesota.
