Obituary: Edward Carl Walker

Edward “Carl” Walker, 65, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024. Born on April 28, 1958, in Freeport, Illinois to Lizzie Pearson and Edward Walker, Carl was raised in a close-knit family full of aunts, uncles, and cousins, fostering a deep sense of community and belonging from an early age.

Carl honorably served his country as an Medical Airman specializing as a Biological Warfare Technician and a Flight Medic in the United States Air Force. His commitment to duty and love for his country were evident in his service. Carl carried the values of dedication and service into all areas of his life. After his military service Carl returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he worked in a variety of industries, but was most passionate about his work in healthcare.

A fervent life-long learner, Carl's curiosity knew no bounds. He seized every chance to broaden his knowledge, often enrolling in college courses for the sheer pleasure of learning. This thirst for knowledge was paralleled by an avid love for travel. Carl cherished the opportunity to discover the country, experiencing new cultures, cuisines, and fishing spots. His adventures brought him immense joy and a wealth of stories, which he shared with anyone willing to listen. Carl loved meeting people and talking with them, no one was ever a stranger, only a friend he hadn't yet had the pleasure of meeting.

Carl is preceded in death by his father Edward Walker, his grandparents, and a few cherished uncles. He is survived by his mother, Lizzie Pearson (St. Paul, MN); sisters, Regina Walker (St. Paul, MN), Louise Ward (Apple Valley, MN), an adopted sister Paula Herko (Apple Valley, MN) {a beloved addition to our family and a chosen sister of Carl}; Nephew, Robert Howell (Minneapolis, MN); daughters, Leticia Walker (St. Paul, MN), Veronica Lively (Apple Valley, CA), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles and cousins around the country who will miss him dearly.

Carl will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His final resting place reflects his unwavering service and dedication to his country, a fitting tribute to a life well-lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Veterans' Service Organizations (VSO), Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Educational Charities, to honor his life of service and passion for learning.
