Born on April 11, 1949, in Logan, Iowa, Dwight was the son of Edward Gahm and Erma Alton. He was raised in Little Sioux and Mondamin, Iowa. After graduating from high school, he attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and later earned a degree in Mortuary Science from the University of Minnesota.

Dwight married the love of his life, Paula Rae Arndt, on November 25, 1966. They shared nearly 58 wonderful years together, which included raising four children: Scott, Sheri, Stephen and Sean.

In recent years, Dwight and Paula enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. Dwight could often be found at the gun range or by the pool. He took great joy in the company of his family, and his children and grandchildren brought him immense happiness, alongside his beloved dogs, Missy & Mylo.
