Obituary: Loved by his family, Devoted to the Word of God

Dwight Clinton Colbaugh passed away on December 6, 2025, in St. Paul, MN. He was born on September 22, 1945, and lived a life devoted to faith, family, and education.

Dwight was married to Nancy, and together they raised three daughters: Sara, Juliet, and Katie. His love for his family was matched by his deep commitment to his calling.

From 1978 to 2015, Dwight served as a Bible Professor at Evangel University and 20 of those years as Campus Pastor. His nearly four decades of service left a lasting impact on generations of students. He was known for his deep compassion for students and was a gifted communicator in preaching, teaching, and song. His gifts on the stage and singing were evident from an early age. After years of performing in various productions and events he was able to record an album of his favorite hymns. "His Eye is on the Sparrow" will always be cherished by those who heard him perform it.

We ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Convoy of Hope through the link on Dwight's online memorial page. This can be found at epilogg.com

Family Reflections

Dwight was one of a kind. A gentle soul that knew how to be gentle with other souls. He was Pastor Colbaugh to most and that was at the heart of everything he did. He pastored as he sang, as he preached, as he listened, as he loved his wife and family, as he parented his girls. He gave us the greatest gift; He loved Jesus and let that love move through him to others.

At home Dwight's greatest strength was persistence. He loved to work long and slow outside. Usually, he was taking the gigantic stump of an oak out of the ground only armed with his shovel and all the patience in the world. He loved the hard work, and being in nature brought him peace. He loved conversations about God and scripture and could be roped into one at a moments notice - this was used against him most often to extend bedtime. He loved to sing. There was the frequent preparation for special music in church but there were also the blues he would sit down to sing and play at the piano. Hearing those opening chords will always bring us straight to him.

The tenderness of his heart was always apparent. There wasn't a dinnertime prayer that went by where his thankfulness for the grace of God didn't cause him to tear up.

Psalm 51: 16-17

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;

you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.

My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;

a broken and contrite heart

you, God, will not despise.
