Jack Wall, M.D.

Dr. Jack Edward Wall died peacefully in St. Luke's hospital shortly before midnight on April 10, 2015. His son, John, and daughter Carolyn were at his side.

Jack was born to Mabel and Otis Wall in St. Paul Sept. 2, 1931. He graduated from University High School, then obtained his bachelor's of science at the University of Minnesota in 1956. He went on to medical school at the same institution and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology in Fargo, N.D., in 1960.

Jack married Marilyn Berg and together had three children, Carolyn, John and Kathryn. Though they later divorced, Marilyn and Jack continued to share family birthdays and holidays.

The majority of his medical practice was in Duluth, and he was the founder of Northland OB-GYN Associates. He also had a practice in Flagstaff, Ariz., and Fountain Valley, Calif. He worked as a locum tenens for many years and practiced across the country. He most recently was medical director for CSL Plasma in Duluth and retired at the age of 82 when he became ill.

Amongst many other accomplishments as a physician, he was a past president of the Minnesota Obstetric and Gynecologic Society, a pioneer in intra-uterine transfusions, as well as gynecologic laparoscopy and colposcopy in the state of Minnesota. He delivered over 5,000 babies and delighted in meeting the grown-up newborns.

Jack was an accomplished pianist, cook and photographer. He loved to golf with his family. Cabins at Lake Saganaga and Pequaywn were two of his favorite places. Looking for challenges and to participate in his family's interests, he learned to ski in his 50's. He taught himself to sew, play guitar, paint and do wood working. He built a Bradley GT and threatened to build a plane. He loved to tell a joke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Mabel; brother Dr. James Wall; daughter Kathryn Wall-Pearson; and son-in-law Charlie Erickson.

Jack is survived by his son, John; daughter Carolyn; ex-wife Marilyn; his son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Toby and Katy Pearson; amazing granddaughters Grace and Lily; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved and respected.
