Douglas Richard Sawyer, age 60, of Apple Valley, MN, passed away on December 21, 2024 after a short but courageous battle with Stage 4 lung cancer.

Born February 18, 1964 in Philadelphia, PA to Richard and Janet (née Spencer) Sawyer, Doug was the youngest of three children. 

He grew up on the East coast but spent his high school years in the Bloomington area, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1982. He went on to explore his interests, landing in the world of IT consulting and project management, a field in which he served a long career. 

Doug was the proud father of three and was happy to see each of his kids find and fall in love with their partners, and to meet his two granddaughters. 

Doug is preceded in death by his father and mother, and is survived by his siblings Charlie (Dianne) Sawyer and Carol Sawyer; his children Brittany (Ryan) Ballein, Spencer Sawyer, and Marki Sawyer; his grandchildren Sawyer and Alice Ballein; nieces and nephews whom he loved, and Micki Sawyer, who cared for him until the very end. 

An informal Celebration of Life will be held to honor Doug on Saturday, February 15th from 2-4pm at the Bloomington Event Center (1114 American Blvd W, Bloomington, MN 55420).
