About Doreen

Doreen Darlene Norgaard, 65, of Shevlin, Minnesota died on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at her home in Shevlin with her daughter, Amanda, and her three grandchildren by her side.

Doreen was born on February 20, 1958 in Hunter, North Dakota to William and Darlene (Fenske) Ottesen, where she lived and worked on the family farm until she graduated from Hunter High School.

She worked at a café where she met the love of her life, Thomas Norgaard. She married Thomas Norgaard, Sr. on April 28, 1978 in Hunter, ND. They had five children together. They moved to Mayville. Then they moved to Shevlin, MN in 1979, where Doreen lived the last 43 years. She lost her husband in 2017.

Doreen loved her family, pets, and the friends she made along the way. She was passionate about wreaths for the fallen, making extras for craft shows around the area.

She worked for the governor of ND picking beets for a dollar a row. She grew up on a farm just outside of Hunter, ND. Took care of local children growing up. Worked as a waitress and cook at many restaurants throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. She worked at Nelson Eggs as well as being a homemaker/caretaker for her husband of 38 years. Now they will be reunited in heaven with their eldest son.

She enjoyed wreath making, crafts, stamps, and working with the Auxiliary and Juniors. Creating things for veterans and their families was a passion of hers as she honored her husband. She was proud to thank a veteran and even happier that her grandchildren do the same.

Doreen is survived by her children, Thomas Norgaard II of Shevlin, MN, Martin (Laura) Norgaard of Bagley, MN, and Amanda (Joachim) Willis of Bagley, MN, and Amber Marshall of Shevlin, MN; her sister, Dora Ottesen of Greenbush, MN; her brother, Duane Ottesen of the Twin Cities; her seven grandchildren; three nieces; five nephews; and many other loved family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Norgaard Sr.; parents, William and Darlene Ottesen; her brother, Kim Ottesen; one son, Michael Norgaard; and one sister, Ginger Hartfield.
