life story
After a 4 year challenge of living in Stage 5 Renal Failure, Del Zentgraf, Age 74, has finally ended that fight. Del passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024, in his home, with his Best Buddy in Life and Soulmate, Sharon King, by his side. Del is survived by his son, the joy of his life, Michael and daughter-in-law, Ashlee (Radtke) of Spokane, WA; Michael’s mom, Cindy and husband, Keith Erlandson of St. Francis, MN; twin sister Debbie and husband, Harry Schinkel of Hampton, VA; sister Maureen and husband, Paul Hatlestad of Elk River, MN; brother, Paul; and nieces Trisha, Jenny, Tonya and Emmy. Del will also be leaving behind Sharon’s son and daughter-in-law, Cory and Dawn Clarin of Inver Grove Heights, MN and their two daughters, Lindsey and Teagan, who Del absolutely adored and loved calling his granddaughters. He is preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Betty and his brother, Greg.
After graduating from Spring Lake Park High School in 1967, Del continued his college education and became a Civil Engineer, spending many years with the City of Fridley, MN. Del’s independent spirit gave him a successful and exciting life in both work and play. Being known as a “dirt guy”, Del supervised numerous housing developments and dirt-moving projects. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and just being with Family and Friends. Some of his most fond memories evolved around his early time spent with nieces, not allowing them into his cherished 1966 Buick until it was covered in plastic and having the kids take off their shoes! As the years passed, Del’s pride was watching his son, Michael, mature and grow! Michael is now a Navy Veteran and Police Officer in Post Falls, Idaho. So if you’re going to get into trouble – get in trouble in Post Falls! Haha!
Del’s uncanny dry humor – and his amazing knowledge and memory to recall – will be greatly missed. His remains have been cremated and, at his request, no public service will be held. There will be a Happy Hour Celebration of his life, in the near future, for family and close friends. A very special shout-out to St. Croix Hospice of North Branch for their amazing and compassionate care!
