Debra Marie “Debbie” Shamatt, 70, of Tracy, MN, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD, after a period of failing health.

Debbie was born on November 11, 1954, to Ceriel Van Avermaet and Helen (Cowell) Sammons. She grew up in Tracy and attended school there. Throughout her life, Debbie was known for her caring and loving nature. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at various locations throughout Southwest Minnesota, providing compassionate care to those in need.

On September 18, 1971, Debbie married Mike Shamatt, and together, they raised two children, Cory and Bridget. Debbie’s love for her family, especially her grandchildren, was boundless. She cherished spending time with them and creating lasting memories.

Debbie’s faith was an important part of her life. She found comfort and strength in her belief in Jehovah and her favorite scripture, Isaiah 41:10, which offered her comfort and peace throughout her life.

Debbie is survived by her son Cory (Jeannie) Shamatt of Brandon, SD; daughter Bridget (Michael) Smith of Montevideo, MN; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and many other friends and family members who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ceriel and Helen, and two sisters.

Debbie’s warmth, compassion, and love will be remembered by all who knew her. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed.
