life story

A Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother

Deanna Marie O’Regan passed away peacefully in her home on Friday morning, April 29, 2022. She was beloved by her 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Deanna was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 24, 1938 to Frank and Mary Natali, she was the oldest of three children. Her father Frank was an immigrant from Modena Italy. Her life as a child was idyllic growing up in Cicero Illinois next door to her Italian grandparents who also immigrated from Italy through Ellis Island. Deanna excelled in school and focused her efforts on journalism and English, she was an avid reader.

At the age of 16 she met Allan O’Regan, they were high school sweethearts. She graduated from Nazareth Academy High School in 1956. Deanna and Allan were married in October of 1957 at the age of 19 and a year later started their family together. Allan’s job took them from Illinois to California and back to Illinois. After realizing that the Chicago winters were too harsh, they finally settled in Mission Viejo California where they raised their 6 children. Their home was the entertainment hub of the neighborhood. Deanna was always a gracious hostess and an amazing cook, welcoming all into her home.

Eventually another move took them to the Bay Area, residing in San Bruno California. Deanna and Allan both loved San Francisco and all it had to offer, it was their favorite city. Deanna took a job at Plant Construction in San Francisco as an executive secretary. During that time her husband Allan was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away six months later. She was widowed at the age of 54. Deanna continued to work and finally retired after 25 years. Following her retirement she traveled the world and enjoyed the benefits of her large family, spending time with her 11 grandchildren and eventually 9 great grandchildren.

Her life was filled with family and friends, she was a devout catholic, and a parishioner at Our Lady of Angels in Burlingame, where she was involved in the Italian Catholic Federation. Her life was a life well lived, adored by children and grandchildren, Deanna was the matriarch of her growing family. She dealt with hardships like the death of her son Keith and son- in- law Joseph Crow, 7 years ago. Incredibly she overcame stage one pancreatic cancer nearly 18 years ago which would eventually have an impact of her life in her later years.

The faith she had in God and a devotion to St.Pio kept her strong until her death. In her final days she was cared for at home by her loving and compassionate caregiver, Ivy Lavulo. Deanna is survived by her children, Kelli (Peter) Benz, Kurt (Marylynn) O’Regan, Karyn O’Regan-Crow, Kendyl (John) Volk, Kevin (Lissette) O’Regan, grandchildren, Shannon (Tim) Durnin, Samantha Benz, Katie Benz, Kayla (Beau) Witsoe, Krysten (Max) Treub, Brooke (Michael) Beck, Nicholas O’Regan-Crow, Jessica (Levi) Adams, Jennifer Volk, Sofia and Ashley O’Regan.
