life story

Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and proud veteran of the United States Navy.

David R. Ittner, 80, of Crystal, Minnesota passed away on December 7, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. He passed into eternal life just 10 months after the love of his life, Verna. We will miss him greatly, but believe he is with her once again.

David "Dave" Ittner was born on May 2, 1943 to Roy and Fern (Hendrickson) Ittner in Little Fork, Minnesota. He spent much of his childhood in northern Minnesota and spoke fondly of his home in International Falls and visiting family in Blackduck and the Cass Lake area. He moved to Minneapolis as a teenager and graduated from Minneapolis Vocational High School in 1962. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in California, Scotland, Virginia and Vietnam.

Dave married his high school sweetheart, Verna Lammert, in 1963 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Minneapolis. He supported his family working as a printer, and retired in 2018, after 55 years in the printing business. Dave enjoyed socializing and being around people. He was proud of his military service time, stopping frequently to talk to other veterans about their experiences. He also volunteered at various organizations, such as Can-do Canines and Meals on Wheels. He loved his faith community at Epiphany and served as an usher there for many years.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife Verna, his father Roy, mother Fern, sister Karen, and brothers Leigh, Eddie, and Bill. He is survived by his brother Fran (Linda) Ittner, sister Joy Simpson, children Mike (Brenda) Ittner, Sue (Dan) Borg, Steve (Michelle) Ittner, Gerald (Victoria) Ittner and Brenda (Richard) McCoy, along with several beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in his honor on January 13, 2024 at Church of the Epiphany, 4900 Nathan Lane, Plymouth MN 55442. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, with service at 11:00 am and lunch to follow.

Dave was a loving person who enjoyed making people laugh. He loved to tell stories, listen to country music and watch westerns on tv. He will be dearly missed.
