About David
David Lowell Jeska, age 76, of Plymouth, Minnesota, passed away on September 11, 2025, with his family by his side. He leaves behind warm and enduring memories that will be cherished always by those who knew and loved him.
Born on February 10, 1949, in Fosston, Minnesota, to the late Archie and Orpha (Dahl) Jeska, David studied at Minnesota State University–Moorhead and Luther Seminary in St. Paul. He lived a life marked by curiosity, compassion, and dedication to the service of others. As a Lutheran minister in the 1970s and 1980s, he stood courageously for equality in the church, particularly for gay and lesbian communities—long before it was commonplace to do so. In many ways, David was ahead of his time: justice-driven, compassionate, and unafraid to champion causes close to his heart.
He is also remembered for his gift of storytelling, big personality, love of animals, and his lifelong passion for sports. A devoted Minnesota fan, he will no doubt continue cheering on his beloved Vikings from a better seat above.
David is lovingly survived by his children Daniella (Dominic) LaBella and Seth Jeska; and by nieces and nephews Pam LaRue, Debbie Jeska, wife of the late Craig, Larry (Cheryl) Jeska, Candice (Michael) Kirby, and Jeff (Sara) Jeska. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and their wives, Dale (Marjorie) Jeska, Ronald (Darlene) Jeska, and Robert (Marlys) Jeska; his niece and nephews Steven Jeska, Charles LaRue, Craig Jeska, and Cindy Jeska.
In accordance with his wishes, no public service will be held. In his honor, memorials may be made to the Animal Humane Society or Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners (IOCP).
