David Jerrold Loop

January 25, 1953 – January 7, 2023

Minneapolis, MN, USA

life story

Beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend

David Jerrold Loop was born on January 25, 1953 (one of twins with his brother Dennis, who was born on January 26) and passed away on January 7, 2023, age 69, after a long period of declining health caused by MS.

Dave graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis in 1971. While in high school he was active in:

Ski team (jumping)

Student government

Drama, having a part (I think he was Oscar’s poker playing buddy Vinnie) in the senior class play of The Odd Couple

The YMCA

Voted Most Likely To Succeed in his senior class

Dave went on to study at the George Williams College (YMCA) in Aurora, Illinois for a year. He subsequently was hired by TCF in Minneapolis.

He also spent some time studying at the Control Data Institute in Edina, Minnesota. He went on to be hired by Sperry-Univac in the Highland Park area of St. Paul as an electronics technician. Sperry-Univac changed its name to Unisys while he was there. He remained there until the lab relocated out of state and he chose to remain in the Minneapolis area.

He went on to work at Seagate Technologies and Cypress Semiconductor and a few others. He did a number of contract and short term employment jobs after that.

Dave loved sports, specifically the Minnesota Twins, the Vikings, and the North Stars (later the Wild). He was a hockey player himself, playing goalie until he suffered a cardiac arrest on February 29, 1980, while playing a game with friends. While the cause of his cardiac arrest was different from that of Damar Hamlin, his recovery was almost as remarkable. Power of prayer came through for him too.

Dave, along with his twin brother Dennis, was gifted at art and at making banners for baseball games. He was known as one of the “Banner Twins” during the Minnesota Twins run up to the World Series in 1987. Their banners were so good that they were often stolen. They hung banners for a number years, including for the 1991 World Series.

Dave also loved music, mostly classic rock, especially Fleetwood Mac and Christine McVie (who doesn’t love her voice?). He also liked playing computer games, starting with the Empire and Avatar games on the mainframe Control Data PLATO system. He later went on to play other games on the PC until the MS made it impossible.

Dave is survived by his mother, Joan Iverson of Wanamingo, his twin brother Dennis Loop of Minneapolis, his other brothers Clifford Iverson (Missy) of New Brighton, Terry Loop (Heather) of Knoxville, TN, and Tim Loop of Minneapolis. He’s also survived by his sisters Lorrie Iverson of Raleigh, NC, and Sally Da Costa (Van) of Shakopee. Also nieces and nephews Derek and Leah Armentrout of NC, Joe, Sophia, and Isabelle Da Costa, Svea and Miriam Iverson of MN, AJ McCullough of FL, Jacob McCullough-Loop of TN, and Cole Hawkins, Alexys and Davyd Loop of IL.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Charles Iverson, and his father, Jerrold Loop.

A small celebration of life event will be held after the the winter season. Please contact Dennis Loop or the other family members if you would like to attend.
