A Gentle Soul Who Left The World Better Than He Found It

He will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit and unwavering love for his family and friends. His presence brought comfort, laughter and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

David’s Life

David Alan Culhane (64) passed away on June 1st, 2026. He was born on October 13, 1961 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He built a life centered around family, friendship, laughter, and kindness.

David mainly worked in the restaurant industry. Later in life he found great joy working for AMC Theatres, which he often described as his favorite job. He brought his strong work ethic and warm personality to every role he held.

He went to college at NE Metro Career and Tech Center where he completed the Janitorial Services program. Later in life he enrolled at Minneapolis College in the Health Information Technology program. He was one class short of graduating and was very proud of this educational accomplishments.

David had a passion for video games, comic books, science fiction shows, monster movies, classic rock music, movie soundtracks and he enjoyed eating at the Teppanyaki Buffet. He was a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed many trips to Mystic Lake Casino. Above all else, however, David loved his family.

Known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and positive outlook on life. David had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued. He never seemed to have a bad word to say about anyone and approached life with gratitude, optimism, and a sense of humor. Even as the years passed, he never lost his excitement for celebrating birthdays and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures.

David was immensely proud of being a son, brother, and uncle. Though he never married or had children of his own, he loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own and embraced being an uncle as one of the most important roles of his life. His love, protection, encouragement, and unwavering support will remain with them always.

David is preceeded in death by his grandfather Clarence Nelson, grandmother Rosella Nelson, birth father Wayne Nelson. He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Culhane; his adoptive father John Culhane (Rosie); brother Douglas Nelson (Janean); sister Lisa Blake (Mike); sister Vicky Drohman; significant other Mary Jo Rawson, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A special thank you to everyone at Arden Glades and In My Father’s House, LLC who cared for our beloved David during the last years of his life.

David will be remembered for his pure heart, his positivity, his constant smiles, his laughter and the love he shared so freely with others. His memory will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.

David would like you to know that he loved you all very much, and was grateful to have you all in his life.
