About Scott
Scott Anderson was born March 17, 1955, to Carl H. Anderson and Irene Aune Anderson in Bagley, MN. He was welcomed home by his parents, sister Deb, brother Rodney, and great grandmother Ingeborg and raised at home with his brother, Tim. He was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley.
He was a most studious student attending and graduating from Bagley Schools in 1973. He attended and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1977 with a Civil Engineering degree. While he was a UND student, he was offered and took a job with the MN State Highway Department working on the Bemidji Highway 71 bypass project.
Upon graduation from UND, he was offered and took a job with Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, KS. While working with Cessna, he obtained his private pilot’s license. In 1979, he was offered and took a job with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, CA. He worked for Hughes Aircraft in the 1980s working on satellites. He returned to McDonnell Douglas and Boeing Aircraft to work on airplane design as a structural engineer for 36 years. A favorite project was the C-17 Air Force cargo airplane. He retired in 2015.
Upon retirement, he moved back to his hometown of Bagley, MN. His retirement project was building his dream farmhouse to detailed perfection on his newly acquired farmstead. He died on March 7, 2023, at McIntosh Senior Living Center, McIntosh, MN.
Scott was a skilled and knowledgeable guy in a plethora of areas. He was our Google! He possessed special knowledge & skills in airplane building, mechanics, woodworking, & photography. He built and flew his own airplane, a Lancair 235 during the 1990s. Upon its completion, he made its inaugural flight from Los Angeles to Bagley with his dad by his side in the cockpit. His flight was covered in the Grand Forks Herald and Bemidji Pioneer as a local graduate returning home.
After finishing his airplane, he advanced his woodworking skills building fine quality furniture, cabinetry, and the finishing detail woodwork of his home, including stairs, banisters, & window woodwork.
Scottie possessed gracious humor, wit, & fun. His downtime was spent shopping at Menards and Harbor Freight or watching hours of Andy of Mayberry, Hogan’s Heroes, Married with Children, & Last Man Standing with a smirky, giddy grin. He was a shy guy who was incredibly generous and kind.
He will be missed by his family, including his sister Deb (Gary) Bonik, Bagley MN; his brother Tim (Theresa Long) Anderson, Walla Walla, WA; brother Rodney (Barbara Kovar) Wilson, Fountain Valley, CA; niece Gretchen (Mike Waidelich) Bonik; nephew Chad (Angie) Bonik & their daughters Cori & Ellie; nephew Eric (Daunine) Wilson & their son Patrick; niece Kendel (Dennis) Doyle & their daughter Aunika.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Martin & Ingeborg Aune and Ole & Marie Anderson, sister-in-law Barrett Wilson, and numerous aunts and uncles.
His family wishes to thank McIntosh Senior Living Center for their care for Scottie.
