Darrel “Butch" Peter Lempart, 72, of rural Kelliher died on Monday, April 18, 2022 at his home.

Butch was born on May 27, 1949 in Bemidji, MN, the son of Peter and Arlene (Grundmeier) Lempart. He graduated from Kelliher High School in 1967.

He was drafted into the US Army on June 21, 1968 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on June 19, 1970 with the rank of SP4. He worked for the Rennemo family helping to build wild rice paddy dikes with a drag line.

Butch was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Karen Ann Skinner on December 2, 1972 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kelliher, MN. They made their home in Woodrow Township where they farmed. He worked in the woods logging for a number of years for various people. He dairy farmed and raised beef cattle for 35 years until he concentrated on his beef cattle increasing his herd over the years. He refused to retire and enjoyed farming, cows and helping out his neighbors.

Butch’s only hobby and main interest was more farming and more cows. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kelliher.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Karen Ann Lempart of Kelliher, MN; 2 sons, Bryan (Billie) Lempart of Kelliher and Darin (Teresa) Lempart of Kelliher; Grandchildren, Jake Waldo of Duluth, MN, Boden Lempart of Kelliher, Braxton Lempart of Kelliher, Nicole Reese of Kelliher, Tabitha Reese of Kelliher, and Rebecca Lempart of Kelliher; 4 sisters, Reyna Haiby of Blackduck, MN, Susan (Dale) Pepelnjak of Pelican Rapids, MN, Joanne (Ed) Fussy of Bemidji, MN and Lori (Ross) Rennemo of Kelliher, MN; sister-in-law, Janice (Dick) Gear; brother-in-law, Lowell (Gloria) Skinner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Everett Haiby.

Butch’s wish was that any flower arrangements given at his funeral do not contain daisies (he battled them too much farming and considered them a weed).
