An Upstanding Son, Father and Friend

About Darcel
Darcel was born to Diane Jones on January 8,1969 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. He attended elementary school in Minneapolis, Roseville, and Coon Rapids; then junior and senior high in Coon Rapids. Darcel attended Anoka Ramsey Community College where he served as an English tutor for foreign students. He earned an associate degree, majoring in Music Theory.
He loved all types of music, being influenced by his Grandpa Jones; dad, Mark/Chico Perez; and Uncle Bob Jones. He began playing drums first, then started teaching himself guitar. As everyone who knew Darcel could tell you, he was an excellent guitarist, and even made guitars; one of which is displayed along with his favorite, Floral Steve Vai.
Our Darcel was a kind, loving, compassionate, generous, witty, intelligent, and tell-it-like-it-is young man. He was always honest about his feelings and opinions. He showed his love in so many ways; not only to those he loved, but even to strangers. His laugh was infectious, and is just one of the many things that all of us will miss. Darcel had a plethora of knowledge on countless subjects. His family and friends were constantly impressed and amazed at what he knew. His desire to learn of his heritage lead to the discovery of many ancestors, both maternal and paternal, even including royalty.
One day, he approached his mother and announced with great enthusiasm, "Mom, you know we're related to Lady Di?" All she could do was giggle from his excitement; it was touching.
We also ought to share a sweet memory of him from his short time in the hospital.
The doctors thought they may be able to save his life if they amputated his left foot/leg. So, his mother, Diane, asked him, "Darcel, the doctors tell us that they're going to have to amputate your foot, and maybe even part of your leg. Do you understand? What do you think? Are you ok with that?" Barely able to speak, his reply was, "Yeah, that's fine. I don't need to skateboard." Unfortunately, amputation turned out not to be a possibility. His body was too damaged to recover from an operation. He peaceully passed away two days later.
Dar has had such a huge impact on so many people's lives. Some even referred to him as their hero. He enjoyed helping people, and wouldn't let grudges get in the way of doing a kind deed. What he felt was his greatest accomplishment and what gave him great joy was his two children, Darcel Jr. and Karsen. Dar will be sorely missed by so many of us until we meet again in God's paradise, our eternal home with Him, Heaven. He may be physically gone, but in our hearts he will stay. We love you forever, Darcel.
