Daniel Richard Baird, 88, of Blackduck, Minnesota died on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society, Blackduck, Minnesota.

Dan was born on November 29, 1936 in Blackduck, MN, the son of Floyd and Caroline (Belden) Baird. He attended Blackduck Public School and worked on the family farm in rural Blackduck. As a young man he moved to Big Falls, MN to work in the woods. There he met Lois Carlson. Together they had four children, Pam, Brenda, Terry and Barb. After they divorced he met Trudy Ann Dirkes and they married on February 14, 1981. They made their home in Big Falls and he was a self-employed as a logger. After suffering from poor health, Dan quit logging and moved to Blackduck on the family homestead where he made a living working construction, farming and working for area loggers. He continued to grow a large garden up until he moved into the Good Samaritan Society, Blackduck in December, 2022. Daniel continued his desire to log and talked about the possibility to cut timber sales right up until he entered the Good Samaritan Center.

Daniel is survived by his children, Pam (Brad) Hiemenz of Big Falls, MN, Brenda (Dan) Sursely of Big Falls, MN, Terry (Karen) Baird of Big Falls, MN and Barb Baird of Grand Rapids, MN; numerous grandchildren; step-children, Chris Dirkes of Blackduck, MN, Mariea (Dale) Maish of Blackduck, Patricia (Tom) Bronczyk of Kelliher, MN, Michael (Karen) Dirkes of Blackduck, MN and Janell (Philip) Finlayson of Bemidji, MN; 19 step-grandchildren; 43 step-great-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Orval Baird and Stanley Baird; and sisters, Doris Sutton and Leona Hand.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Trudy Ann Baird in 2014; parents, Floyd and Caroline Baird; 2 step-sons, William Dirkes and Timothy Dirkes; step-granddaughter, Katrina Maish; step-grandson, Frank Maish; brothers, John Baird and Orlan Baird; and a sister, Norma Sanders.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Blackduck, MN 56630, USA

Rev. Fritz Raedeke will be officiating. Visitaion will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Langor Township Cemetery in rural Blackduck at a later date.
