Daniel Jr. Cottrell, 86, passed away peacefully with his wife, Laurelle, and son, Reese, by his side on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Park Rapids, MN.

Dan was born on June 10, 1936 to Myrtle and Dennis Cottrell at the family home in Vergas, MN. Dan chose to leave his home in his early teenage years and went to live with Lloyd and Violet Seter of Glyndon, MN, who he called his extended parents.

Dan joined the United States Army in December of 1954 and returned in December of 1956. Then he worked on farms near Glyndon, at Stenerson Lumber Co. and at the Firestone Tire Store.

On June 6th, 1958, Daniel was united in marriage to the love of his life, Laurelle Kelting, and they made their life in Glyndon, MN. They raised three children, Reese, Cyle, and Rhonda along with taking care of several foster children over the years.

In 1965, Dan had taken a Government job at the Radiation and Radiology Lab on the NDSU Campus in Fargo, where he worked until his retirement in 1993. He and Laurelle then moved to Park Rapids, MN where they enjoyed camping and bonfires and wild life from their living room window.

A man of many talents, some of Dan’s favorite pastimes were yard work, carpentry, traveling, and visiting or playing cards with the good company of neighbors and friends. He also loved music, especially Gospel and dancing to Blue Grass Jams. Dan’s crazy sense of humor and quick wit has made everyone enjoy his company.

Dan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Laurelle Cottrell; children, Reese (Joyce) Cottrell of North Pole, AK/ Lake Asbury, FL and Rhonda Cottrell of Fargo, ND; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Cottrell of Park Rapids, MN; his grandsons, Brandon (Beverly) Cottrell of Lake Asbury, FL and Cody (Kristy) Cottrell of North Pole, AK; his great grandsons, Bode and Cruze Cottrell; his brothers, Arthur (Dorothy) Morris, Richard Morris, John Seter, and Terry Seter; his sister, Karen Seter Offutt; his sisters-in-law, Karen (Dave) Johnson and Yvonne Kelting; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, foster children, and other loved family.

He is preceded in death by his birth parents, Myrtle and Dennis Cottrell; his parents, Lloyd and Violet Seter; his brother, Lloyd Seter, Jr.; his son, Cyle Cottrell; his sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Lyle Young; his sister Ardys Weis of Arizona; and his brother-in-law, Erling Kelting.
