Dan's Life

After a brave fight with cancer, Daniel Blaine Alsdurf passed away peacefully in his home in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 20th, at the age of 72.

Dan was born January 18, 1954 in Minneapolis, MN, and graduated from Richfield High School in 1972. He grew up loving sports, listening to the BeeGees and chasing cute girls, which he then dumped because he didn’t know what to do after he caught them (sorry, girls, but it sounds like the next one was your Mr. Right). After high school, he joined the Air Force Reserve and served for six years. He attended Normandale Community College and then briefly worked as a police officer in Crookston, MN, finding the job was not quite as dramatic as the police on TV shows. Following that stint, he was employed by Republic/Northwest Airlines for 17 years before starting his own commercial cleaning business. He later held various other positions in sales and also managing multiple group homes, before starting his dream job as an Uber driver. He loved to meet new people and leave them laughing. In 1982, he married the one woman he couldn’t live without and they were blessed with three kids who grew up to be pretty great human beings. He loved being a dad, a grandpa, the fun uncle and a substitute dad for his kids’ college friends far from home. He was a witty comedian for his family and friends, although his children rarely appreciated his humor until their later years. A resident of Hastings, MN for more than thirty years, Dan was an active member of his church, neighborhood and community. He regularly attended Resurrection United Methodist Church of Hastings for several decades during which he served as an usher, taught Sunday School and was a friend to anyone who walked through the church’s doors. During this time, Dan founded and led the UMC Players, producing several segments that aired on Hastings Community Television, and eventually produced a weekly radio broadcast that aired on Hastings radio station KDWA for five years. In his spare time, Dan enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, tending his garden, and being regularly disappointed by Minnesota sports teams.

Dan is survived by his loving wife Peggy (Wenig), his three children, Kelly [Ryan] Lindstedt, Andrew [Jerilyn] Alsdurf, and Nathan [Tyra] Alsdurf, and five grandchildren Axel, Arlo, Asher, Aria and Remi, as well as his brother Jim [Phyllis] Alsdurf, sister-in-law Sandy Wenig, brothers-in-law Bob and Steve Wenig, sister-in-law Lori Alsdurf, six nephews and nieces, Marc [Trish] Alsdurf, Hannah Alsdurf, Ben [Svetlana] Alsdurf, Mandi [Josh] McGillivray, Annie Lynch, Lydia Sponslier, and several great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dolly, several infant siblings and his brother, Steven Alsdurf.
