About Clarence
Clarence Duane Johnson, age 89, died August 22, 2020 in Duluth, after suffering a stroke.
Duane, son of Clarence and Ida (Sundquist) Johnson, was born June 16, 1931 in Duluth.
He lived on the shores of Lake Superior in Hovland his entire life. He has always enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing!
His main occupation was logging. While most loggers became increasingly mechanized over the years, Duane continued cutting with a chainsaw and hauling trees to his landing with a skidder. He worked harder daily than most men a third of his age. He logged until the age of 86.
Duane has also done carpentry, building his own home next to Lake Superior, along with several other cabins in the Hovland area. He helped his children in the construction of their homes.
Duane married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Schuppel, February 14, 1952 in Hovland. They celebrated their 68th anniversary this year.
Surviving Duane is his loving wife, their six children – Sandy (Fritz), Rocky, Dusty (Eric), Stoney, Rusty (Kathi) and Misty (Mike); eleven grandchildren – Mikala, Jory, Gianna, Clay, Skyler, Colee, Brandon, Nicole, Desiree, Tasha and Kayla; ten great grandchildren and one sister – Arline Johnson (Keck).
When we were baptized in Christ Jesus, we were baptized into his death. We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. (Romans 6:3-5)
All who are baptized into Christ have put on Christ. In his baptism, Duane was clothed with Christ. In the day of Christ's coming, he shall be clothed with glory.
