life story

💙 Remembering Chris.

Husband. Father. Uncle. Brother. Son. And Child of God.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Christopher Lee Adkins. He leaves behind eternal love, and an enduring light that can never be dimmed.

His Legacy.

Chris was a true Midwesterner who claimed Oakland as his “stomping grounds” for 36 years.

Chris was a man who could make a stranger feel like a friend. He had an infectious smile and a natural way of putting people at ease. He set out to bless everyone he met by spreading The Word, or with simple acts of love and care. Chris will be remembered most for his generosity, humor, and the way he made people feel appreciated. Oh, and for a few of the pranks he pulled on us too!

He took pride in his work as a Class A truck driver, and had a knack for professional cleaning too. He owned and operated his own janitorial business during the 90's and 2000's. Chris was also a passionate photographer, music lover, and cinephile. He curated numerous playlists and albums that he would enjoy during work and downtime.

In his later years, Chris battled cancer. First prostate cancer, then multiple myeloma, a rare bone marrow cancer that ultimately caused complications leading to his passing. Throughout his treatment, Chris often spoke about the challenges of navigating the health care system as a Black man, but he never failed to advocate for himself. In the end, he counted that as the ultimate win.

Chris leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories that will continue to be told, and family who love him deeply. He studied the Bible closely and sought to be the truest embodiment of a Christian. In his final moments, he trusted that he was on the right path to be reunited with his Lord and Savior, and with all the loved ones who preceded him in death.

Chris believed the best way to cope with grief and honor our loved ones was to "keep them in your heart, and keep on living." His journey on this Earth has come to rest, but his love, laughter, and vibrant energy will live on, within us, forever.
