Chestine Welch
November 13, 1934 – June 27, 2025
Chandler, AZ, USA
Chestine (Stashwick) Welch was born in Chicago, the oldest of six in a proud Polish-American family. Later her family relocated to Lafayette, Ohio, where she met and married Roger James Welch, who served twenty years in the Air Force. Chestine accompanied him around the U.S. and to England, and on his retirement from the service in 1976 they settled in Tucson, Arizona, their favorite location of the many where they had lived. She remained in Tucson for forty-eight years, forty-three of them in the same house. Ever independent, she lived on her own for as long as she could and worked until her eighty-fourth year. In the last year of her life she moved to Chandler, Arizona so that her daughter could more easily assist with her health needs.
Chestine was a lifelong lover of the sun (often found poolside), crafts and sewing, books (several stacked on her end table at all times), and police dramas (marathon showings of Bull, Bones, and Blue Bloods, among others). She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Angeline, her brother Richard Stashwick, her sisters Antoinette “Toni” Cramer and Felicia Smelser, her brother-in-law Randy Frank, and her husband Roger. She is survived by her brother Paul (Sandy) Stashwick and sister Mary Ellen Frank, her sister-in-law Jacque Stashwick, her brothers-in-law Loren Cramer and Farrell (Phyllis) Welch, her daughter Michelle Welch (Lejon Johnson), and many nieces and nephews.
