About Cheryl

Cheryl Lynn Henderson was called home by her Heavenly Father on May 18, 2022, after a long, hard, courageous battle with cancer. Cheryl had so much more she wanted to do, but God had other plans. Cheryl’s death has left a big void in the lives of her family.

Cheryl was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 27, 1969. In 1973 to the Henderson family moved to Wayzata, Minnesota where Cheryl completed her education from kindergarten through High School graduating in 1987. She attended Hampton University in Virginia and graduated in 1991 with a degree in communications and journalism. Cheryl worked in the television news business for eight years, which included becoming an anchorwoman in Atlanta. Answering an inner call to help others less fortunate led Cheryl to a homeless shelter in Freemont, Nebraska where she worked for five years eventually earning the title of Executive Director. Throughout her time in Omaha Cheryl was devoted to her work within the church. When her health issues presented Cheryl moved home to Minnesota to be near her family.

A gifted violinist, Cheryl began playing at the age of five and played in a number of orchestras and musical groups. Though she played less as the years went by, she could pick it up at any time and make it seem as though she played every day. She played complicated pieces by ear. Cheryl’s true calling was her faith. She felt at home in the church and enjoyed bible study and sharing what God and faith meant to her.

Cheryl had a sharp and sophisticated intellect accompanied by a wonderfully dry sense of humor and she truly loved making people laugh. Cheryl had her own way of moving through the world. She was quirky, funny, spirited and gifted in innumerable ways. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who loved her.

Cheryl is survived by her parents; John and Frenchie Henderson, sisters; Pamela Layton and Denise Gooden-Richmond (Guy), Great Aunt; Lorraine Nash, Aunts; Esterlene Anderson, Portia Anderson and Karen Henderson, Uncle; Paul Henderson, beloved nieces, and nephews; Noah and Lindsey Layton, Dayna and Daryl Gooden, a very special mentor and friend from her Omaha church, Mother Alice Woods and many other family members and friends.
