Cheryl Ann Felix (McGuinn)
August 31, 1968 – February 26, 2023
Plymouth, MN, USA
To say that Cheryl was an unusual woman, would be a real understatement. She received her bachelor degree at St Cloud State College with a major in political science and minor in public administration. She went on to get her advanced degree at Embrey Riddle University in Daytona Beach, FL, graduating cum laude in 2004 with a Master’s of Business Administration in Aviation. Cheryl interviewed in 2005 for her first post-college job as a financial analyst at Continental Airlines in Houston, Texas. She was seven months pregnant with her second child. Continental was so impressed by Cheryl’s skills and personality that they hired her on the spot and then kept the position vacant for almost four months until eight weeks after the birth. After three successful years in Houston, she went on to work for Pinnacle Airlines in Tennessee, Walgreen, Corp in Illinois and most recently at a Geothermal company in Minneapolis, MN.
Her interest in aviation began in high school when her parents and brother attended the yearly Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA) air show in Oshgosh, Wisconsin, an activity she has continued. As a teenager, she was very interested in the history of women who flew airplanes and made sure that she got pictures of any female professionals who were at the show. She is a life member of EAA, as well as a member of International Aerobatics Club and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. As a young adult, her father gave her a two-seater Cessna 150, a prized possession. During her undergrad studies, she worked at an aviation supply store, a very practical experience for the owner of a vintage airplane.
Cheryl’s interests were varied. She was a marathon runner and ran in races in every state in which she lived. She was very proud of her medals and wore the racing tee-shirts with joy. For years, she was the secretary/treasurer for her local League of Women’s Voters Association. When her sons were still young, she introduced them to Christmas bell ringing for the Salvation Army. Cheryl also owned a bright red 1968 Ford Mustang, belonged to the local Mustang Club and really enjoyed taking part in the Mustang rallies throughout the state. She co-owned, with her brother, Jim, a farm near the Casino at Hinckley, MN.
Cheryl was born and raised in St. Paul, MN, baptized at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and attended Humboldt High School in West St. Paul. There, she was a straight A student and played the flute winning the John Phillip Sousa Musician’s Award for Excellence. She met her future husband, Guy Felix in 1992 and they became constant companions. They married in 2000 at St. Stanislaus. Their first son, Tyler was born in 2004, followed by Logan in 2006, both were baptized at the same church. In spite of often working a second job, Cheryl was a loving mother and a strong advocate for her children’s education and well-being.
Cheryl is survived by husband, Guy Felix, and sons Tyler Felix, 18, and Logan Felix, 17, of Plymouth, MN, parents Larry and Bev McGuinn, and brother, Jim McGuinn, of Hinckley, MN.
