A loving sister, aunt, and best friend

Cheryl Ann Dunn

June 27, 1952 – January 25, 2026

Cheryl Ann Dunn, beloved sister, aunt, godmother, businesswoman, and treasured friend, passed away on January 25, 2026, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. She was 73 years old.

She is lovingly survived by her brother, C.W. Dunn (Tammy); her cherished cousin, Jim Blanton, who was more like a brother; her great aunt, Sally Ferguson; her lifelong companion and dearest friend, Mary Smith, who shared her home and her heart for many years; and her treasured “Golden Girls” sister, Kathie Wilson (Larry), whose friendship felt less like friendship and more like family.

Though she had no children of her own, Cheryl poured her love into her nieces and nephews, who were her pride and joy: Amy Kaiser (Troy), J.R. Dunn (Mubina), Tim Kraemer (Elizabeth), Lori Kepfer (Quentin), Sydney Sherrod (Malcolm), and Levi Dunn (Sommer). She was fiercely proud of each of them.

She also leaves behind her especially cherished great-niece, Jade Gooch, who lovingly knew her as “TTE” and without question, she was the very best one, along with many other great-nieces and great-nephews. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, comment on a post, or share in their laughter.

Born on June 27, 1952, Cheryl grew into a woman known for her quiet strength, sharp mind, steady presence, and unwavering devotion to the people she loved. A gifted bookkeeper, savvy businesswoman, and true numbers genius, she proudly owned and operated C&M Concrete for many years. She could balance any ledger, manage any challenge, and solve any puzzle placed before her. Wordle was not a casual hobby. It was a competition, and she came prepared, usually with a quick witted remark in the group text for the loser of the day.

In her younger years, she loved volleyball, earning the nickname “Killer” for her fierce competitive spirit. She bowled with her signature arm rotated high and over her head, a move as unforgettable as she was. Later in life, that competitive streak lived on in Wii tennis and bowling, where she played to win but always with laughter close behind.

Cheryl loved the ocean, its peace, its rhythm, and its endless horizon. She also enjoyed the bright lights and excitement of a lively casino. But above all else, she treasured time with her family. She was the steady one. The one who showed up. The one who stayed. The one who quietly held everyone else together when life felt uncertain.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Gladys Dunn and Charles Dunn; her sisters, Barbara Dunn Kraemer Saldana and Anita Jenkins; and her beloved great-niece, Ember Gooch.

Cheryl donated her body to the University of Louisville School of Medicine, following in the footsteps of her sister Barbara. When her ashes are returned, they will be joined with Barbara’s and placed in the Gulf of Mexico she so dearly loved.

Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but her strength, humor, loyalty, and love will live on in every family gathering, every competitive game night, and every ocean breeze that brings comfort.

“She did not need to be the loudest voice in the room. She was the steady heart that kept it beating.”

She will be missed beyond words and loved beyond measure.

Please join us in a Celebration of Life on March 28, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the New Albany Masonic Temple, 805 Market Street, New Albany, Indiana. The entrance is on the side. This is the same location as Barbara’s Celebration of Life two years ago, and while we are certain they are reunited with Gladys, we deeply miss their laughter and presence here.
