Chuck's Obituary - Written By Chuck

Charles (Chuck) Reaves Libby passed away at home on October 8, 2023 surrounded by family and friends in Scandia, MN. Chuck was born on December 25, 1967 in Great Falls, MT to Jeannene Ann Reaves Libby and Robert James Libby. Chuck lived in several places until the family moved to Onida, SD in August, 1976, the place where Chuck would always consider home no matter where else he lived.

Chuck had great memories of the prairie and the wind where a gentle breeze is considered 30 miles an hour. He loved playing sports – every season, every sport whether it was football or basketball or baseball or swimming or track – he was in anytime, anywhere, and when he wasn’t playing sports, he was watching sports. Chuck was also an avid hunter and fisher his entire life.

After graduating from Sully Buttes High School in 1986 he joined the SD National Guard, and then went to DSU in Madison, SD on a track scholarship. After his college experience, Chuck joined the workforce moving to St. Paul, MN in 1990 where he went to work at the MN Department of Commerce. He met and married his first wife Cheryl Dawn McClean in 1991 and had two children, Maggie Mae Libby and Jeffrey Charles Libby, who joined their half siblings, Amanda McClean and James McClain.

After leaving the Department of Commerce, Chuck went into the construction trades, working with his hands. He was able to do just about anything from plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, sheetrock, cement work, and more. He knew it all – enough to be dangerous, but not dangerous enough to cause any harm.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Jean, his niece, Elizabeth (Libby) Jeanne Jeschke, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Chuck is survived by his children, Jeff and Maggie, step-children, James and Amanda, sister and brother-in-law, Kirsten Libby and Bill Strusinski, brother, Patrick Libby, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Chuck on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 4-7 at the Forest Lake Legion, 355 W Broadway Avenue, Forest Lake, MN, and in Onida, SD on November 11, 2023.

Memorials are preferred to Kirsten Libby, 13690 205th Street N, Scandia, MN 55073.
