About Chuck

Charles “Chuck” David Walker, 94, Nevis, MN passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN, just 22 days after the death of his wife, Ruth.

He was born in his aunt’s house in Barronett, WI on October 10, 1928 to Gilbert and Mabel (Johnson) Walker. He grew up in Marine, MN and graduated from Boy Vocational High School in Minneapolis, MN. He served in the US Navy and later became a Master Electrician and boiler operator.

Chuck met his wife Ruth Pennison in the small town of Marine where Ruth’s grandmother owned and operated a restaurant called Penny’s (short for Pennison). Chuck had heard that Penny’s cute granddaughter was around and started spending a little extra time at Penny’s. He would order a 1/4 of the pie, not just the standard 1/8th slice. Ruth didn’t know this, so Chuck would hassle her a little to get his extra slice of blueberry pie. Ruth and Charles celebrated their 72nd anniversary in April, 2022. Their love for each other has always been an incredible example of what love should be: kind, understanding, forgiving, and endearing.

Ruth and Chuck lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, and in the late 1980’s purchased a hobby farm near Nevis, MN. In 1991 they retired and moved permanently to the Nevis farm where Chuck enjoyed fishing and playing cards with Ruth and their friends.

He is survived by his children, David Walker of Englewood, CO, Barbara (Larry) Thompson of Elizabeth, CO, Jeffrey (Annette) Walker of Nevis, Kathryn (John) Beckwith of Denver, CO; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Ruth; and his parents, Gilbert and Mabel Walker.
