Chad's Life

Chad Brown (58) of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, passed away on May 24, 2026. He was born to Ralph and Catherine (Rodberg) Brown on June 30, 1967, in Duluth, Minnesota.

Early in his life, Chad’s family moved to Cottage Grove, MN where he grew up and graduated from Park Senior Highschool. Chad was a stand-out athlete in many sports, but found a love for hockey early on that stuck with him throughout his life. Chad had a sharp mind and enjoyed solving problems, which eventually led to a career as an auditor at PWC.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Chad was known for his unwavering support of the Minnesota Vikings—despite his frequent complaints about their performance—and also had an enthusiasm for whatever team his cousin Rob was working with, most recently the Kansas City Chiefs. His love for sports extended beyond spectating. After high school, Chad enjoyed playing in hockey and softball leagues, participating in multiple fantasy football leagues with good friends, golfing, coaching his children’s youth sports, and collecting sports cards with his sons. He could spend hours discussing any game involving a ball or puck, which on occasion resulted in throwing a little wager on the line. Chad always had a competitive spirit, often best displayed during a game of cornhole where he would often shut his opponents out. Whether playing, coaching, or engaging in friendly debates pertaining to sports, Chad’s passion and quick wit were always on display.

Chad loved the outdoors, making trips to deer hunt in Cotton, MN and fishing trips to Lac Seul, Ontario. The weeklong trip to Lac Seul was always a favorite, and involved houseboats full of dads, uncles, cousins and friends. Activities included spirited conversations, games, and fishing where Chad’s presence was central to the creation of many cherished bonds and memories. The houseboat was also the perfect opportunity for Chad to openly crank Def Leppard, his favorite band.

Chad’s personality was as dynamic as it was endearing. He was witty and charismatic, with a knack for making those around him feel valued and appreciated. Despite his imposing stature, he exuded kindness and interest to those he met, that often left a lasting impression. His sense of humor and fun-loving nature made him the heart of every gathering and people were lucky to be in his orbit.

Above all else, Chad was devoted to his family. He is survived by his father, Ralph Brown Jr. (Gloria Rooke); his children, Haley (Brown) Sederberg (Derek Sederberg), Noah Brown (Katherine Romero), and Josh Brown (Natalie Lynch); his nephew, Martin Brown; his grandchildren Barrett, Samuel, and Reese Sederberg; and his loving friend, Paula Mack. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine (Rodberg) Eichman and his brother Jamie Brown. Chad’s family was central to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Chad’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of humor, kindness, and love will continue to inspire all who were touched by his presence. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his loss. A celebration of life will be held on August 23, 2026, from 1-4 PM at Junction 70 Bar and Grill in Cottage Grove, MN.
