Catherine “Cathy” Mina Nelson, 94, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 at May Creek Senior Living in Walker, MN.

Born in Hope, ND July 2, 1927 to George and Ida (Wheeler) Boettcher, Cathy moved with her family to Akeley, MN in September 1936. She grew up on a farm, attended Akeley school and graduated in 1946.

Cathy worked at Munsingwear in Park Rapids until she married George W. Nelson on April 24, 1954. She was a stay-at-home mom. She worked for the Chase Hotel in Walker from 1978 until she retired in 1990. She was a Fire Warden for over 20 years and was a life-long member of the First Lutheran Church of Akeley.

Cathy is preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, George and Ida; sisters, Arletta Klies, Maurine Jacobson, Joyce Lindback; brother, Smedley Boettcher; brother-in-laws, Frank Klies, Keith Jacobson, and Aldy Lindback; father and mother-in-law, George N. and Violet Nelson.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Nelson of Chisholm, William (Julie) Nelson of St. Joseph, and Boyd (Vickie Flannigan) Nelson of Akeley; grandchildren, Dan Burgau, Lindsey (Ed) Cremers, Andrew Burgau, Jordan Nelson, Phillip Nelson, Benjamin Nelson, Joshua (Megan) Hoeschen; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
