About Carol

Carol Ann Smith, 88, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Born in Los Angeles, California, to Ann Crownover and Chester Sparrow, Carol lived a life filled with creativity, love, and cherished connections.

In 1955, Carol married the love of her life, Jerry Smith, and together they built a beautiful life in Huntington Beach, California, raising their family with warmth and devotion. In 1988, they relocated to Arroyo Grande, where they became integral members of the local artist community. Carol’s passion for art flourished there, leading her to create and sell numerous oil paintings. Her artistic talent was recognized in December 2002 when she won first place for her painting Edna Valley – Canyon Blues.

When Carol wasn't painting, she was involved with several community volunteer groups, including the Arroyo Grande CA Woman's Club. A true social butterfly, she developed many close friendships and enjoyed fostering connections wherever she went.

Following Jerry’s passing in 2016, Carol moved to Chanhassen, Minnesota, to be closer to her daughter, Shari, and her Minnesota family. Despite the chilly winters, she found joy in the beauty of the fall colors, the first snowfall of the season, and scenic drives by the lakes. Known as the "party queen”, Carol treasured family gatherings, holidays, birthdays, and Sunday dinners. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she delighted in attending her great-grandchildren’s school and sporting events.

Carol faced profound sorrow with the loss of her beloved daughter, Shari Reagan, to cancer in 2023. Through heartbreak and joy, she remained a pillar of strength, kindness, and resilience.

Carol is survived by her caring brother, Tom Sparrow; devoted son-in-law, Dan Reagan; her two loving children, Jeff Smith of Huntington Beach, California, and Michelle Boolen of Rochester, Minnesota; as well as seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to carry her love and legacy forward.

To honor Carol’s memory, donations may be made to the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund, an organization close to her heart.
