About Carol
With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Carol Ann Banister at the age of 88, who peacefully left this world on June 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Carol's life began on September 13, 1937, in the quaint town of Concord, New Hampshire, born to Joseph and Doris Sandquist. She moved to San Francisco in the early 1960's and then relocated with her husband, Fred and their children to Minneapolis, MN in 1970.
Carol dedicated her entire life to helping others less fortunate than herself. She volunteered on many committees in the Minneapolis area and worked for women's rights. She was proud of being the Executive Director of the Minnesota Epilepsy League for the United Way, as well as being involved in one of her favorite organizations, Solid Ground. These were just a few of her many accomplishments and passions.
She was a beacon of light and a trailblazer in life. She took risks and forged her own path. She was fiercely independent. Her four children, David, Tracy, Daniel and Valerie all benefited from her strength and passion.
Carol was unselfish and taught her children and others to accept all people for who they are and to learn about them before judging.
She was a funny and engaging woman with many friends. She could walk into any room and make new friends quickly.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joseph and Doris Sandquist and her brother, Charles Sandquist. She is survived by her husband, Frederick Banister whom she married in June of 1961. Her legacy lives on through her four children and eight grandchildren.
