Minneapolis, MN, USA
Candice Hektner, Candi, age 76, passed away peacefully in Minneapolis, MN, surrounded by loved ones on October 12, 2024.
Candi was born on April 22, 1948, in Fargo, ND to loving parents, Hope and Alfred Hektner. She was the beloved mother of two daughters, Nicole Hektner and Brittany Hektner, along with her sons-in-law, Mehdi Noori and Nick Berendt, and cherished owner of her loyal dog, Ruby.
Candi grew up in Fargo, ND, where she attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School, graduating in 1966, and earning her undergraduate degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Upon graduating from Concordia, she clerked in Washington, D.C., before receiving her Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana in 1975.
Candi practiced law in the Twin Cities, receiving prestigious recognition as an attorney, earning Martindale-Hubbell's top rating of AV, and being a multi-year selection as a Super Lawyer by Law and Politics magazine and Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine.
Candi was known for her sharp intellect, humor, and compassionate spirit. She was an active member of church, enjoyed bowling and trivia, traveled to Africa and Europe, and formed “The Investment Club,” where she forged lifelong friendships. She spent her life serving others, actively engaging with her community, and volunteering at local food banks and churches.
As a retired lawyer, she spent winters in Fort Myers, Florida, and summers at the family cabin in Park Rapids, MN, where she cherished moments with extended family. Connecting with people was very important and meaningful to her, and she was never shy to strike up a conversation with anyone.
She stayed connected with friends through playing cards, mahjong, book club, and get-togethers. Whether she was enjoying a game or a conversation, Candi was happiest in the company of her family and friends.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nicole Hektner and Brittany Hektner; her siblings, Vicki Hartz, Curt Hektner, and Marianne Johnson; and their respective families. This includes a large extended family of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Candi was predeceased by her mother, Hope Hektner, and her father, Alfred Hektner.
Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
