life story
A loving mother and fierce advocate
"She's somewhere in the sunlight strong, her tears are in the falling rain, she calls me in the wind's soft song, and with the flowers she comes again." -'The Poet Sings' by Z. Randall Stroope
Serving her community with compassion
Brenda felt deeply for those close to her and was ready to provide love and support whenever she was able. She was a staunch advocate and devoted much of her life to serving and empowering individuals with disabilities. She served in the Youth Service Core for four consecutive summers as a camp counselor for a volunteer program for individuals of all ages with disabilities. She went on to be one of the first house parents for one of the first group homes in the Twin Cities. She was then a Behavioral Analyst at the State Hospital for a decade. Brenda later graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling from Minnesota State University in Mankato. She went on to hold many jobs within this field; her last focusing on securing employment for adults with mental illnesses in the metro area for the Guild Company.
