About Brad

Bradley "Brad" A. Johannes, 55, from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, passed away on December 1, 2023 due to a cardiac event after playing pickleball. He was born to Lane and Mary Johannes in Minot, North Dakota, and grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Richfield, Minnesota. Brad later attended St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, where he continued his academic journey and met lifelong friends.

Brad’s professional life was largely devoted to U.S. Bank, where he was a dedicated employee and beloved member of the U.S. Bank family for 33 years. His 33 years of service speak volumes about his commitment and contributions to the organization. He was impeccable with his work and highly regarded by all of his colleagues. Brad was always generous with his time and willingness to teach others. Brad’s impact went beyond his professional expertise. His generosity in sharing knowledge and his ability to maintain composure in challenging situations made him a valuable asset to the team.

At work, Brad will be remembered fondly for his humor, quick wit and that unmistakable smirk. You first saw the smirk and knew the “Brad laugh” would be following. The passing of Brad as a friend and colleague at U.S. Bank is an immense loss felt across the entire organization. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those lucky enough to have worked with him, leaving behind a lasting impression. Brad’s memory will continue to bring smiles and warmth to those who knew him, and his contributions will be honored and remembered within the U.S. Bank family.

Brad's personal life was marked by a jovial and down-to-earth personality that endeared him to many. A college friend remembers Brad as an unassuming and unpretentious individual, always ready to offer a positive and hopeful perspective, especially in times of need. This attribute shone brightly when Brad and his wife Cindy provided comfort and optimism during a friend's challenging moment, showcasing his deep commitment to his friends and family.

Known for his humor, Brad was a master of friendly practical jokes, leaving a trail of laughter wherever he went. From an unforgettable college pig head prank to an ingenious salt-in-chocolate-milk trick, or a recent red-pepper-under waffles joke, his antics were legendary among family and friends. His sense of humor was matched by his love for adventure and living life to the fullest.

Brad was an enthusiastic fan of St. John’s University (Johnnie) football, a passion that led him on numerous adventures across the country. His love for the game was evident in the many flights and road trips he took to attend these matches with friends. A memorable journey in December 2000 saw him and a friend driving 18 hours to Abilene, Texas, for a playoff game, taking turns at the wheel to make the long journey. Another cherished trip was to the D3 championship game in Salem, Virginia, that included a visit to Washington D.C. and a return trip through an Indiana ice storm, culminating in a warm welcome home to Indianapolis and a homemade quiche by sister Alison.

Brad's zest for life included being a roller coaster enthusiast, often incorporating visits to Six Flags or similar amusement parks into his travels, adding excitement and joy to each journey. He was an adventurous, dynamic guy who liked living and doing things.

Brad loved his holiday lights – big time – transforming his home into a spectacular destination with thousands of lights and sound effects for everyone to enjoy. During Halloween and Christmas, his home was renowned for its dazzling light shows and became an iconic spot. Continuously expanding his collection of holiday decorations, Brad was dedicated to his epic holiday setup, and created a unique and memorable experience for each holiday season.

Brad was also an avid cook and barbeque aficionado, whose culinary skills were as much a part of his identity as his infectious laugh and love for life. Brad’s barbecue was infamous at home to his family and friends and at Johnnie tailgating during football season. His passion for cooking was just another facet of his desire to bring joy and care for those around him.

Brad met his wife Cindy in 2010, and the pair bonded on their first date over a conversation about their shared love of bacon. They were married in 2016 and enjoyed many happy years together traveling, cooking, and at home with enjoying friends and family.

Brad is fondly remembered as a supportive and caring brother, always there when needed. Whenever called, he'd show up with his signature smile, a joke, and a most thoughtful gift in hand. As kids, he and his sister Andrea would ride bikes, shoot hoops, play football and sneak up to watch banned Saturday Night Live episodes together after bedtime,

Brad was a beloved husband, step-father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, co-worker and community member. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his spirit and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have been a part of Brad's life and invites those who knew him to remember and celebrate his life and the joy he brought into this world.
