Betty May Olson, 74, of Mizpah, MN died on February 23, 2023 under hospice care at her home.
Betty was born on February 18, 1949 in Gemmell, MN, the daughter of Donald and Opal (Rust) Reinarz. Betty spent some of her growing up years in Montana and South Dakota, where she left a big part of her heart before moving back to Gemmell.
Betty married David Olson of Gemmell and made their home on Route 112 as “Bay North Ranch,” along with kids, horses, and all the pets. Both David and Betty were born and raised in the Gemmell area. They both came from large families and often joked that they were related to everyone “up north.”
Betty was the local postal carrier for more than 30 years in the Gemmell/Mizpah/Northome area. She saw her neighbors frequently. She received many Postal Carrier Safety Awards. She retired a few years ago to spend more time with her family and horses or horses and then family.
She belonged to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was a leather craftsman. She enjoyed horses, horses, horses, mixed with family get-togethers, traveling, work, work and fun.
Betty loved her family more than anything, but we teased her many times about who was more important to her, horses or family. She could cleverly train her dogs or cat to do anything she wanted. She loved all animals.
Betty took many adventurous trips, with many adventurous people, too many to possibly mention. Most importantly Betty lived a full, happy life with a large, loving family. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
Betty is survived by 6 daughters, 15 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Olson; daughter, Doreen Olson; 2 brothers, Allen Reinarz and Jim Reinarz; and her parents, Opal and Don Reinarz.
