life story
Mjos, Betsey Gisella
Betsey was the youngest child and only daughter of Owen ‘Bud’ Mjos and Marjorie ‘Midge’ Hey Mjos, born June 12, 1954. She grew up in Robbinsdale, MN with her two older brothers, Jonathan and Todd, in the house that her grandfather built.
There are many things that meant so much to her. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cousins and friends. Traditions were important to her, and she instilled them into her 4 children. She loved Christmas the most! She had a knack for making it feel like home wherever she was and included everyone. She had a love for music and had a great collection of old vinyl records. In later years Worship Music was her favorite. Some hobbies she enjoyed were sewing, knitting, and gardening. She loved shopping of all kinds and could find the best thrift store and garage sale treasures. It’s safe to say animals were very special to her, especially her beloved dog Kizmet.
She loved being around children and young adults. When her oldest girls were teenagers, she became Bethel Guardian of Bethel 93, in Osseo and had many adventures with them. She then became a bus driver for the Osseo School District, and later she became a foster mom for mostly teenage boys. Andrew, Vidal and Jake came into her life during that time, and they remained in contact even after they were grown. That was very special to her. Most recently, she was a nursing assistant at Health Providers in Montevideo. She worked with young adults in a group home and really enjoyed it. She made some good friends there.
She had many jobs and made many friends along the way! She never stopped learning and was so proud that she overcame her dyslexia. She became an avid reader!
Betsey had a sarcastic wit and knew a lot about many things. She knew what she believed and she stood stubbornly by it. She enjoyed coloring and was a great cook. She taught us that ‘necessity is the mother of invention’.
Generous even with her last dime, she really liked seeing people happy and it felt good to her when she could be the one to make it happen. She loved her children very much! Although she had some rough patches on her journey, she never gave up. She was a fighter until the end. She believed in Jesus, so we know that we will see her again. It gives us comfort knowing this is not goodbye, just see you later.
Betsey went to heaven on December 12, 2021 after a short, but courageous battle with stage IV metastatic lung cancer. She did one round of chemotherapy to be around a little longer for her loved ones. The chemo proved to be too much for her body to handle. Thankfully, she got well enough that she could have a long Minnesota goodbye at the home of her oldest daughter Gretchen. She was able to visit with family and friends until the end. With the help of North Memorial Hospice, she went peacefully on that early Sunday morning with her kids by her side holding her hands.
We are blessed by all the memories that will keep her alive in our hearts!
She is survived by: her brother Jonathan Mjos, her children Gretchen Mickelson, Melanie (Scott) Rasmussen, Jamison Seitz, Kirstin (Sonya) Taylor, her grandchildren Gifti Osowski, Hope Osowski, Harper Rasmussen, her niece Ingrid Mjos, her nephew Coleman Mjos, her many cousins, family members, friends and her beloved dog Kizmet.
She is preceded in death by her Parents Owen ‘Bud’ Mjos and Marjorie ‘Midge’ Hey Mjos, grandparents, and brother Todd Mjos.
