All About Betty
Betty departed peacefully on February 14th, 2022 in the comfort of her home. Her loved ones will forever carry her memory and legacy by laughing, loving, and being mindful that every day presents an opportunity to show kindness.
Betty was born in Nacogdoches, TX, the daughter Charles and Ana Douglas.
She spent her early years in Fresno, CA, marrying the love of her life, Earl Durham, in 1961; then starting a large family before moving back to Lufkin, TX in 1965.
Betty was a true "Wonder Woman" in many people's lives. She raised a large family while working full time, being involved in numerous church ministries, being a home caregiver to many relatives & friends and was a neighborhood angel for all in need.
"Mom", as she was known to many more than just her own children, was a devoted Christian woman, putting Christ first in her life and practicing true charity to all she met, offering particular support to those less fortunate than herself throughout her life.
Family was the center of Betty's world. She lovingly supported her children and adopted relatives and friends, but there was nothing that brought her more happiness than spending time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty loved taking trips, trying new food, dancing, BINGO, holiday gatherings and any event where family and friends came together. She loved to laugh and tell jokes and her fun personality could inspire anyone to smile. She always recognized the good in people and focused on the positive aspects of her life.
She is survived by her sons Tony, Charles and Bobby; daughters Angela, Leisha, Wanda, Charlotte and Carla. She has 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren whom all adored her greatly. She is reunited in heaven with her husband and parents. May she live on in all of our hearts forever.
